Hola a todos ;
I got a phone call today from the school, the faculty office. The TA told me that I won the first prize and the full scholarship for the next semester! I already had known that I got straight A+ from all the clases but I thought that still it was too early to be so sure about scholarship. Well, it's good to be confirmed.
Theses days I've got new obsession. I'm studying for GRE. I haven't studied so much thus far, 'cause it's been hectic with Christmas holidays and New Year's holidays, etc. Well, and my laziness, too.
Oh, I need some good, 'native sense' based opnions. Here's the thing. By uncle owns a company. He wants me to come up with a brilliant idea to give his company a real good English name, but with these two letters lead the each vocabulary. 'B' & 'G'. Yes, it's gonna from a acronym for the company name. Why B & G? Because its Korean name is 'Bu-Guil'. 'Bu' means 'to be rich', and 'Guil' means 'to have good luck'. Some of you might know, Korean vocabularies consist of chinese letter, and each of chinese letter has a meaning. So if a word is derived from the chinese letters, it always has combination like that. Like the city that I'm living in now, 'Busan'. 'Bu' means 'to be rich'(again) and 'San' means 'mountain', because this city is rich in mountains, our ancestors named it as such.
It's same with the way the parents name their baby. I, for example, am named 'Hyu-njeong'. 'Hyun' means 'to be brilliant', 'Jeong' means 'justice', thus I am the bright justice. My father probably wanted me to be a lawyer or judge, I don't know. Sorry, pa. I couldn't make it. Wait, where am I going with all this talk about meaning of the Korean vocabularies and names?
Oh, that's right. I narrowed down my liston the naming my uncle's company like this. Well, ok. Not really narrowed down, I couldn't think of more than one. So, I've got one.
'Beneficial & Global'
What do you think? For your record, the company is about manufactering the small peices that go to cars, and other machines. The main material that they deal with is metal stuff. However, my uncles think it's gonna loose its competitiveness within the next few decades along with the chinese industries get their portion on international stage especially when getting advantage from their cheap labors. Therefore, he's trying to extend his buisness range covering the area of power generation. I think it's pretty good idea.
So, we don't have to look at what they are doing as a business to try to find a appropriate name. I called my uncle today and said I would visit him tommorrow to offer this idea. Before that, any idea or objection?

How about "Bountiful and Good" or "Beautiful and Great," or something along those lines. I just like the initials, B&G. Sounds very professional just by itself. I forgot all about the Chinese characters. Thanks for the refresher. I do remember your Chinese name, however, and it fits. You are a brilliant woman, strong in languages, and you have an interest in social justice, so that fits. Justice is a difficult concept, and it applies to so many areas. I think your parents named you right. I think it's interesting that your Spanish name is Mercedes, which means 'Mercy,' which is associated strongly with justice. I miss you. Hope to talk to you soon.

The big thing about worldwide famous international brands is their names mean... ¡nothing! Think of Nike of Sony or... they're just words.
Maybe I reach your post a bit late and it's all decided but... ¿your uncle wants B&G? Then go B&G. Just B&G. No meaning. All brand. Later on, make up a good story for the letters, just in case somebody asks. Maybe you don't even have to make it up... ¡you already have it! B&G would be for foreign business, wouldn't it? And, as long as I know, foreign countries tend to find Asian culture fascinating... I'm sure that if you tell an American the story of the chinese letters and their meaning... he would be fascinated. I would be!!
Make it simple: Just B&G
Greetings from Spain. It's my first time in your blog and I find it very interesting :)
