Today I got this huge emotional wave of delight, happines and joy. I won the third prize at the English Essay Contest hosted by Pukyung University. I saw the advertise just yesterday and I applied yesterday. There hadn't been a time for preparing for this.
The theme was quite difficult. As the presidential election is coming soon in this country, they wanted to know what I think about the effects that the presidential election might be bringing to the relationship between North and South Korea. I'd already been informed that they were gonna provide us with an current political issue but I could never see this was coming.
They allowed us two hours to write down. For the first thirty minutes I couldn't write a word because I was completely lost and had no idea where to start. However, when I realized that I should at least give it a shot not to disappoint myself. At that moment, I wasn't expecting to be elegible for any prize I just wanted to finish what I started.
During the time I had to go to the bathroom twice, while there was no one in the classroon who went to the bathroom I've never experienced this before but somehow today I was nervous and that caused some kind of an activity in my stomach. So I couldn't help but spend a little long time in the bathroon. Because of that, I couldn't have time to check the errors and see how I had done.
In the time of announcing the winners, I was hopeless because the people who examined our essays told us about on which basis, cirteria they have evaluated and I just realized that I didn't complete any of them in my writing. However, I was totally alright, because I admited that I haven't done a good job and the topic was just too difficult for me.
But, somehow I was called for the third prize and they gave me 100,000 won. Woops. First time I felt strange than happy. "It must be a mistake", I thought, even though I didn't wnat them to correct it.
I guess the people I competed with today were just too young. Many of them are 5 or 6 years younger than me. So for me, it may be easier. Although the winner of the first prize also was 5 year old younger than me. Well, that was quite a big challenge for me.
Now I somehow feel so confident. I got prize for something that I wasn't sure, that I thought I screwed up. So, if I can have a chance to show what I can do very well, what will the award be?

That's awesome, HJ! Good work kicking some High Schooler butt. Your English is great. I'd love to see a transcript of the essay. Did they let you keep a copy? Call me some time.
